The Problem BOOSTAR Addresses
During a road attack, passengers may panic, become confused, forget the correct emergency number or be unable to describe their location. These difficulties can delay reporting and reduce the ability of security agencies to respond quickly.
What the service enables
- Indicate that a journey is beginning.
- Raise an emergency alert during a suspected or confirmed attack.
- Call 112 and access the Police Control Room serving the location.
- Share the distress location with authorised responders.
- Confirm safe arrival.
How the Passenger Safety Service Works
1. Download and Register
Passengers download BOOSTAR free of charge, register with their phone number and activate phone-call, location, SMS and floating-button permissions.
2. Activate “I Am Travellingâ€
At the start of a journey, the passenger presses the yellow button to activate a passenger-safety session.
3. Raise an Alert During an Emergency
During danger, armed robbery, kidnapping or another serious road-security threat, the passenger presses the SOS or floating emergency button to access 112, the relevant Police Control Room and approved responders.
4. Community-Based Distress Confirmation
Where two or more users in the same area raise similar alerts, combined reports may support quicker verification and escalation as a possible major road-security incident.
5. Confirm Safe Arrival
The green “I Have Arrived†button closes the journey-safety session and confirms that the passenger reached the destination safely.
Emergency Escalation Structure
Depending on the approved deployment, alerts may be escalated to 112, the relevant Police Emergency Control Room, the nearest DPO or designated Police desk, Safe Highway Patrol personnel, authorised PCRC/community-security coordinators and other approved emergency institutions.
Government and Institutional Roles
Implementation requires collaboration among transport authorities, the Nigeria Police Force, Safe Highway Patrol, PCRC leadership, recognised community-security structures, transport unions, terminal operators and BOOSTAR technical partners.
